Funny how subjective audio is. I have the LCD-X/HD800s/Empyrean1/ and a few other extra noodly sets lying around, I genuinely find my self listening to my empyreans more than any other headphone I have with the occasional jump to my HD800s for video games and the LCD-X for movies while the Empyreans are used for music. So I guess empy 1 would be in S/A for me. These are all being run off of the D70/A70 stack(Empyrean/LCDX) and Cayin HA-6A(HD800s/Everything else)

Hifiman He560 V1 is an S when given a really powerful amp. The Sannheiser 660s is the sweetest sounding of the 600 range, in my opinion. It makes everything sound like a sunny holiday!

So, I bought this headset summer of 2023. I need a headphone that felt as an upgrade to my Fidelio X2HR. Now there are plenty of upgrades to that in terms of quality, but when it comes to soundstage the X2HR is actually pretty good. The upgradepath most obvious was the Hifiman Sundara. Now I've somewhat large ears so I wanted a more oval shaped headphone. The Edition XS. It is amazing. I've heard details I've never heard on the X2HR. It was great. Except for the headband. Now I wear L/XL caps to give an idea of the size of my head, and even in the lowest position this headphone would not fit correctly. The earcups would be slightly lower. Also the headband is simply not comfortable for longer sessions. Me personally can have sessions of 6-8 hours. The Edition XS becomes annoying. So...I got rid of it a while ago and back on my Fidelio X2HR. Not sure what I'm going to buy next.

What if you eq them both to perfection?

My first try on px8 was few months ago, and i could not believe i was listening to the well named b&w headphones...the sound profile was soooo weird and unpleasant that i actually suspected that someone custom EQed it before. Later did i got notice that unlike most headphones, the eq customization of the px8 "follows" the headphone instead of the app(aka the phone) that you used to custom it. Despite i didnt try it again to confirm this info, i really hope that some weird customization has been done to that demo i listened to, because that experience was really surprisingly unpleasant.

V-shaped bright IEMs are not ideal for rock songs and are a no-no for metal. More than 7dB pinna gain - forget it.

Because the world needs another proprietary connector. If you want another color, it’s $400 for a new cable. Also, I wish this color cable came with Pilgrim Noir. Why all the well-tuned IEMs look like $#!+ 😢

Hmmm. Did you turn on the Sony? If you connect the cable without turning them on it will sound tinny as the high res circuit is bypassed.

I have the DT770Pro X... I like the sound, but the oval shape of Sennheisers is much more comfy for me. Would these be recommended as a replacement for gaming and music?

Bought the Azurys, it’s ok. But I would never say it is good on its price point. It really sounds not clean and blunted. The stage is quite small as well. I would take the Slate VSX 10/10times

Honestly, i tried these and i actually really like them so i bought a pair on sale. To me these sound very neutral with a spike in the treble. Bass is very lean and controlled, dont get how these sound bloated or bassy. My IEMs have more bass than these beats

i found out first hand, how my hearing is affected by sound/hp recently got 2x iems, the first pair sounded horrible flat etc, it took my until the 2nd pair to push them in the ear, twist them and angle them until i heard bass... i dont want to do that again lol, but maybe those angled hp are up my alley or a hearing test

Bathys is better. Get a good EQ and tune the Bathys to your liking when sitting at a desk and reap the benefits of ANC and Bluetooth when out and about.

There is no ANC compensation for leakage. It simply just has a different tonal balance when the ANC is turned off. Even if the seal was perfect, turning on and off the ANC changes the tonal balance.

I wonder if anyone else is watching this thread any longer. I am in the privileged position to have sold a pair of these amazing headphones. The demo sessions with my client extended over several hours. The source material was hires audio replayed via a high end portable player. There were Stax 009 for comparison. There was no comparison. These headphones are a Unicorn, unobtanium, call it what you will. They are unlike ANYTHING else you have ever heard. Do yourself a favour and listen to them if you ever get a chance!

I've had them for 25 years, pretty beaten by now (I dropped them, stepped on them, sat on them, etc. hundreds of times, used 8 hours a day (extremely comfortable, I have a tiny head), and to me nothing compares. The only thing I hated about them is the marble but I had to look now again, I basically forgot about it.
